Exercises to get your body feeling more mobile and ready for the day ahead.

I don’t know about you but in the winter getting moving can feel like a bit of a grind! My body feels more sluggish and getting out can be harder with conditions being a little less than perfect most of the time.

With that in mind, here are my three favourite exercises for boosting your mood and mobility in the morning.

Foot stretches

The structure of your feet is remarkably like your hands, you should be able to command similar dexterity from your feet as your hands. Sadly, the need to wear shoes has made our feet cold and unable to move with such sensory feedback. Try spending some of your day in bare feet feel how your foot places on the ground stretch out your toes!

Neck Stretches

Neck pain and strain can be caused by many things, riding a bike for long periods of time with your head jutted forward to the global problem of ‘tech neck. You can read more about tech neck here.

The neck’s muscles, tendons, and ligaments are meant to support the head’s weight—10 to 12 pounds—in a neutral position balanced atop the cervical spine. When texting, viewing Instagram, facetiming, we tend to bend the head forward and look down at a 45- or 60-degree angle, which places about 50 to 60 pounds of force on the neck. This is about the weight of your average bag of potatoes, my head hurts just thinking about it!

Curtesy Squat

This final exercise is a curtesy squat with added spinal rotation. This will get your heart pumping and your body ready for the rest of your day!
