Happiness chemicals and how to release them

Dopamine – The reward chemical, to release this you need to:

  • Complete a task, book, puzzle
  • Take some ‘me’ time – maybe do 10 minutes Pilates
  • Eat something healthy and reward your body with nutrients
  • Celebrate the good in each day

Oxytocin – The love hormone, to release this you need to:

  • Play with your pet
  • Play with your kids
  • Hug it out
  • Compliment someone

Serotonin – The mood booster, to release this you need to:

  • Get moving run, walk, cycle, swim, skip
  • Pilates
  • Meditate – some great apps out there to help with this
  • Get outdoors, nature is powerful go walk by the sea or in the woods

Endorphin – The pain killer, to release this you need to:

  • Laugh
  • Pilates or other exercise
  • Eat something naughty but nice – chocolate
  • Bubble bath with or without a glass of something fizzy
