Before we get into the how and why we need to build a strong core I thought it might be helpful to actually remind you what the core is! The mythical core, put simply, is the muscles in your midsection, including the diaphragm, abdominals, obliques, lower back muscles, and pelvic floor. This group of muscles works together to stabilise your spine, support your torso, and facilitate movement in various directions.

Core strength is crucial for maintaining proper posture, balance, and stability in everyday activities and athletic performance. A strong core also helps prevent lower back pain and injuries by providing support to the spine and improving overall body mechanics. In this video I take you through two exercises which are great for building core strength.

If you find two legs in this β€˜table top’ position is challenging, ie your body is shaking, your belly is doming or your lower back arches then please place one leg on the floor until you are strong enough to hold two and maintain a neutral spine.
