Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on balance, strength, mobility, and overall body awareness. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and has since gained popularity worldwide. Pilates is designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture, while also enhancing the connection between your body and brain.

The core principles of Pilates include concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow. The exercises often involve controlled movements and a specific breathing pattern. The primary emphasis is on the core muscles, which include the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks. However, Pilates also works on other muscle groups, promoting overall body strength and flexibility.

As a corrective exercise specialist, I am keen to really work with you, focusing on alignment and how you can adjust your alignment for a stronger more flexible body.

Pilates can be performed on a mat with just body weight or using specialized equipment such as the reformer, cadillac, or chair. The equipment adds resistance to the exercises and provides support, helping individuals achieve better form and control. In my Pilates classes I also use resistance bands, balls and blocks to simulate exercises you can do on the chair and reformer.

People join my classes for many reasons, including improving posture, rehabilitating from injuries, enhancing athletic performance, and promoting overall well-being. It is suitable for people of all fitness levels and I can adapt classes to suit individual needs or work with you on a one to one basis to improve your health and fitness.
