Menopause can be an incredibly challenging time for women, emotionally, physically and mentally.

Your ovaries start to slow down the production of oestrogen and progesterone and eventually, they will stop making eggs. Menopause is officially said to have occurred 12 months after the last period. This usually happens around the age of 50, but menopause can occur as early as 45 and perimenopause before that.

Exercise is good at all life stages but during this dramatic change in your body it can play a vital role in helping alleviate symptoms and making you feel better.

As women go through menopause, they often experience hormonal fluctuations that lead to physical changes such as weight gain, loss of muscle strength, and decreased bone density.

In my Pilates classes we often do small jumps and resistance band work which can aid towards maintain bone density and support bone health.

Pilates and functional fitness will improve muscle tone and strength, helping you to avoid weight gain.

Beyond physical benefits, Pilates also addresses several psychological and urogenital symptoms associated with menopause. Pelvic floor exercises strengthen these muscles, reducing issues such as incontinence and enhancing sexual satisfaction.

Moreover, the mind-body connection fostered by coming to a Pilates class can help improve mental health by reducing stress and enhancing concentration, which may alleviate symptoms like brain fog and mood swings.

The focus on breathing and controlled movements in Pilates encourages mindfulness, helping women navigate the emotional and psychological shifts that occur during menopause. We also have a good time in class! Whether you are coming to a face to face or an online session my classes are built around community and support for each other.
